Dédier une exposition commune au travail de Michel Campeau, Bertrand Carrière et Serge Clément semble naturel, voire inévitable. Dans le cadre de leur démarche personnelle, ces artistes, amis depuis plus de trente ans, partagent une façon de créer et d’exploiter des images photographiques basée sur le principe de l’accumulation. Regroupant trois projets récents – The Donkey That Became a Zebra (2014-2015) de Campeau, Le Capteur (2006-2014) de Carrière et Chassé-croisé (2005-2013) de Clément –, Accumulations met de l’avant cette même vision de la photographie en tant qu’image-objet dont la signification découle de sa place au sein d’un important regroupement. Cette exposition met en lumière l’évolution récente du travail respectif de ces photographes, mais en même temps propose une réflexion sur un passé; une amitié, une communauté photographique et une époque de l’histoire de la photographie.

Bringing together the work of Michel Campeau, Bertrand Carrière and Serge Clément seems like a natural, almost inevitable project. Within their individual practices, these artists, who have been friends for over three decades, share a way of creating and exploiting the photographic image that uses accumulation as a working principle. Presenting three recent projects – Campeau’s The Donkey That Became a Zebra (2014-2015), Carrière’s Le Capteur (2006-2014), and Clément’s Chassé-croisé (2005-2013) – the exhibition seeks to foreground this common understanding of the photograph as an image/object whose meaning derives from its place within an extensive grouping. The exhibition showcases recent developments in these photographers’ respective practices, but it also proposes a reflection on the past – of a friendship, a photographic community and a period of photography’s history.
